Preparing for your first visit

What to expect when you contact our office

The first time you contact our office, we will do our best to get details about your current condition. We’ll then schedule your consultation. Prior to arriving, we’ll ask you to complete and sign documents so that we can care for you. A consultation appointment is required for all new patients.

Meeting with the oral surgeon

During your initial visit, you will meet your oral surgeon and discuss your current situation. The doctor will go over all the information, any x-rays, and provide you with treatment options. During this time, it is best to ask any questions or concerns you have about your case and the treatment presented. Your oral surgeon will also discuss anesthesia options as your comfort is our priority. We have various levels of sedation from local anesthesia to IV sedation, and more, to help make you comfortable during your procedure. You can read more about your options on our anesthesia page. The consultation appointment is mandatory so that the oral surgeon can review all these items and medical history with each patient before scheduling your surgery.

Occasionally, surgery can be performed the same day as the consultation, depending on scheduling, if the patient qualifies, and medical urgency. However, most patients will require a second appointment and preparation to provide treatment on a separate day. When you check out, our front office will go over the treatment plan with you and the financial responsibilities. In most cases, insurance will not cover 100% of your claims. We do collect payment up front that is not covered by insurance. Before the day of your initial visit, please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

Your surgical referral slip and any x-rays if applicable.
A list of medications you are presently taking.
If you have medical or dental insurance, bring the necessary completed forms. This will save time and allow us to help you process any claims.

IMPORTANT: All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the consultation visit.

A preoperative consultation and physical examination are mandatory for patients undergoing IV anesthesia for surgery. Please have nothing to eat or drink eight hours before your surgery. You will also need an adult to drive you home.

Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern before surgery (i.e., diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are currently taking any medication (i.e., heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.).

X-rays

If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays, you may request that they forward them to our office. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility. X-rays are necessary so our oral surgeons can see your mouth’s landscape to fully formulate the right treatment plan to assist your needs.
